We’ve been excited for Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor since the beginning of the year, and it’s now nearly time for the release, unless you’re interested in the version for PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360, in which case there’s been a delay to the 21st November. The most recent promo videos have been building the a picture of the story, as well as focussing on the development, and the latest covers the two heavyweights of game voicing acting talking about their experiences recording voice and motion capture for the game. Give it up for Nolan North and Troy Baker – you know they’re in nearly everything so this shouldn’t be a surprise!
Without doubt, Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is looking like one of the most interesting games coming this year. Some might say it’s just Lord of the Rings meets Assassin’s Creed, and if that’s where the inspiration comes from then it’s all good with us. The Nemesis System could be one of the most unique features that we’ve seen in NPC AI for a while, with its promise of creating encounters that are totally unique to you based on how you’ve interacted with them in the past. The rich story and detail of Tolkien’s universe means there’s a lot that can be drawn on, and setting this game outside the core of what we’re familiar with frees it up to deliver something epic without getting tangled in lore. And, deep down, we all just want to assassinate Orcs in style.
