Let Battle Kommence

Mortal Kombat 11 is on the horizon and the closed beta is due to go live from the 28th March, so we thought it’s time to get reacquainted with the fighters on the roster and what we’re in store for with this latest instalment.  NetherRealm are showcasing what looks to be the biggest and most fully populated game to date, with the likes of Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden, Sonya Blade, Jade, Baraka and Johnny Cage returning to crack ribs, break spines and decapitate foes in arguably some of the tamer moves that we’ll see.  The story this time around comes straight from Mortal Kombat X and is centred around a corrupt Raiden aiming to destroy all of Earthrealm’s enemies whilst Kronica (the Keeper of Time) is trying to bring order to the universe by playing with history.  So far, so insane, but then who ever plays this for the story?

New features you can expect to see firsthand if you’ve pre-ordered and got beta access are the Fatal and Krushing Blows.  The former kicks in when you’re low on health and deals a huge amount of damage to help turn the tide of battle.  The latter is a enhanced rendering of a characters special move designed to make things look even more brutal than usual.  Also making an appearance is the Flawless Block that will reward those with precise timings to take advantage of withstanding a barrage.  As you’d expect, the showstopping Fatalities and Brutalities will be present and ramped up beyond anything we’ve seen before.

In terms of new characters there’s only Geras that’s been announced so far, but we’re pretty sure there’ll be some more on the slate before we get to release on the 23rd April 2019.  If you decide to pre-order, as well as beta access there’s a bonus character in Shao Khan, and a promise of Shang Tsung further down the line as DLC.  Given the great support the last couple of games have had it’s a safe bet there’s more coming to Mortal Kombat 11, and that’s before we get the lowdown on all the modes planned.  Here’s hoping Puzzle Kombat will make a return and steal all our time like it did in MK: Deception.
