“Codec Momentum?  What’s that?” we hear you cry.  Settle down in a comfy chair with a hot beverage and your favourite snack, and we’ll explain…

Codec Momentum Badges

We’ve all got games that we should have finished, but didn’t quite manage it for one reason or another.  It could be we spent months waiting for them to arrive in our lives, they then turned out to be time-sinks and we moved onto a newer, greater game.  They could be those wonderful Games With Gold/PlayStation Plus/Steam freebies that sit in our libraries, untouched and unloved.  Or it might be a simple case of real life lined up its sights and our gaming pastime had to take one for the team.

Whatever the reason there’s a pile of shame big or small that belongs to all of us, and we want to help you reduce it.  Codec Momentum is about us giving people the impetus to finish something from that pile, whether it’s on our podcast, through social media with #CodecMomentum, or just outright bribery.  Simply fill out the form to let us know which game you want to get to the end of, send us a screenshot confirming you’ve done it and we’ll add you to our Codec Momentum Ranking Table, as well as putting you in our monthly draw for a £10 PSN/XBLA/Steam voucher.

But what about upping the stakes?  If you pledge to get the platinum trophy/full gamerscore/all Steam achievements on your game, and are the winner of the prize draw, we’ll double the reward!  Committing to this shouldn’t be taken lightly, fail in your pledge and you won’t get anything at all; and note that to qualify the game must have a measurable completion percentage or not have all trophies/achievements awarded just for completing story missions (like Telltale’s The Walking Dead for example).  Tick the #Finisher box if you want to go all or nothing, and gain bonus points for the Codec Momentum Ranking Table too!  If the game doesn’t have a platinum/1000 gs/etc., then it can still be entered for 100% completion to get a bonus point – see the full guidance for info.

New for 2019:

Double Up – Each month where there are two or more entries of the same game, and they are successfully completed, the score for each participant will be doubled!  The only catch is every player must go for the same completion level (standard, 100% completion or #Finisher) for it to count.

Refer a Friend – know someone in your life who’s struggling with a pile of shame as big as your own?  Get them to join in and add your recommendation on the entry form, and if both of you complete a game within the first 3 months of entering, you’ll both get a bonus 10 points for the leaderboard.
