Where can I buy a launch PS4 or Xbox One?

PS4 & Xbox One Launch Deals

Now in November, we are only weeks away from the launch of the Xbox One and Playstation 4; the latest in next gen games consoles.  From the majority of reports the PS4 is edging the Xbox One in terms of pre-orders, and the lack of launch day availability of the PS4 seems to support this.  Having said this, we are not in possession of the amount of launch stock Microsoft or Sony have in place, although the higher price and lack of focus on gaming may have put people off pre ordering the Xbox One – just one theory.

I have a PS4 on pre order but have been a little disappointed with the range of launch titles.  This has led me to consider snapping up an Xbox One on launch day so I’ve been looking around at what the best deals are available.  And for fairness in case you have suddenly decided the PS4 is the one for you, I have looked at the PS4 deals also.

Now it is fair to say that combined with the huge level of interest in both consoles and the reports that each will make no profit (at least not to begin with), mega reductions are few and far between.  For this task I am not comparing prices between the two consoles or taking into account that the Xbox One is still available for delivery on launch day.  Some of the savings (or non-savings) may surprise you!  (All deals and prices were correct at time of checking on 5th November and 6th November)

eBay have ‘deals’ in place for launch day delivery, I’ve found two of the cheapest but packages are going for up to £900 as people take advantage of demand.

eBay

PS4 Console + Killzone + BF4 + Dual Controller Charger
Price – £539.99
Price Separately – £470.99
Bundle Price is £69 more expensive

PS4 Console + Killzone + Camera + additional controller
Price – £699.99
Price Separately – £530.99
Bundle Price is £169 more expensive

As you can see demand is outstripping supply, if you want a PS4 on the day it is launched you need to either pay big or ignore the bundle offers.  If you can find a PS4 console on its own snap it up, at £349.99 no retailers are increasing the cost of the console by itself and games should not sell out on launch day, plus you can see the cost of buying separately is similar if not better than buying in a bundle.

The Xbox one is has certainly more offers and find the right retailer, online or high street, and essentially you are looking at the console + a free game as the best deal.  The better offers do include Forza and Fifa 14 so racers and football fans rejoice!

The lack of deals frustrated me a little so using a little cunning I looked at the lowest price I could get a PS4 console and Xbox One Console.  Here is what I managed:

PS4 Console
Toys R Us
Buy online through www.topcashback.com and receive 3.15% cashback (£11.25).

Total Price – £338.74

Xbox One Console
Toys R Us
Buy online through www.topcashback.com and receive 3.15% cashback (£13.54).

Total Price – £416.45

And if you’re really quick (and we mean it, deadline is 11:59 pm on 7th November), you may be able to get a machine through Blockbuster.  Since going into administration and cancelling all Xbox One and PS4 pre-orders, they are now working with Sony and Microsoft to get launch day availability for their customers.  You apparently don’t need to even have proof of purchase at this stage, just an existing Blockbuster account.  Might be worth a try if you’ve not secured one yet!  There are no price or content details at this time.

Update 1: the Blockbuster route has now closed, but Sony and Microsoft are fulfilling those pre-orders for existing customers.

Update 2: we’ve been advised by one of our followers on Twitter that Sony are fulfilling launch PS4 orders directly, so head to their website.  It does have the standard availability disclaimer, but we know from the Blockbuster news that they do have some machines available.

Got a better price or super bundle offer?  Let us know where and we’ll spread the word.
