PixelJunk Shooter Ultimate Announcement

Double Eleven Studios and Q-Games have announced the mystery title they were working on… and it’s PixelJunk Shooter Ultimate.  Here at Codec Moments we’re long time fans of the PixelJunk series, with Monsters being a particular favourite time stealer, so we can’t wait for this latest offering to come to the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita!

PixelJunk Shooter Ultimate combines both PixelJunk Shooter 1 & 2 in to a single narrative tale of action, adventure and puzzle solving.  The core mechanics remain the same: it’s a twin stick shooter where you shoot enemies, manipulate the environment using fluid dynamics (music to engineers ears!), and rescue stranded workers.  Double Eleven have kept the look and feel of the originals and introduced enhancements by making the combat more engaging and bringing in some of the features we’ve come to expect from PSN titles, like Cross Play and Cross Save.

But is it worth thinking about if you’ve already got the PS3 versions?  Boasting an overhauled set of visuals including real time lighting, new visual fx, 3D ships and fluid simulation improvements, there’s also the fact it runs at 60 fps and (hopefully) in 1080p.  The HUD’s also been updated to give more feedback to the player.  It all sounds like great improvements but without changing the base gameplay that made the originals great to play.

There are no details yet on when PixelJunk Shooter Ultimate will be released, we’re hoping it’ll be soon because this sounds like it’s going to be a cracking game.  The first previews are going to be at BitSummit MMXIV on the 7th March so hopefully we’ll get more information and maybe some footage then.  In the meantime, enjoy the lovely alpha build screenshots and keep your fingers crossed that we won’t have to wait too long.
