GRID Autosport Announcement & Trailer

GRID Autosport Feature

It’s with a bit of trepidation I write this, my experience with GRID 2 was one of equal joy and disappointment which caused me to shun Codemasters games for a while.  However, I saw the press release land in my inbox for GRID Autosport and decided to watch the video just so I could find something to ridicule and feel justified for my personal boycott of the developer.  I can’t.  The video is embedded below and is well worth a watch if you’re a motorsport fan.

GRID Autosport promises to deliver on the feedback from fans about what they wanted to see, and seems like it might lie somewhere between TOCA and the original GRID.  The race disciplines are Touring, Endurance, Open Wheel, Tuner and Street and are likely to be split further into specific events to master like the previous games.  You’ll be taking to the track in 22 different locations which feature well known circuits and cities, where Codemasters state around 100 routes will be available, putting it on a par with the number Gran Turismo 6 managed, and we thought that was impressive.  There’s also the re-addition of a team mate to race with and the full professional career mode.  Couple this with what is likely to be a very comprehensive multiplayer powered by RaceNet, and this has the potential to suck up hours of you time.

The only drawback I can see is that it’s PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 only, no next gen release mentioned in any of the information.  This might actually be a deal breaker for some, and whilst I’m prepared to forgive them from my experience with GRID 2, I’m not sure missing out the two newest consoles is a good idea, especially when we’re crying out for a good racing game in the absence of The Crew and DriveClub.  What I do know from the footage though is that 90 seconds of video have spun me round in my thinking about GRID games, and that is something I didn’t expect in under a year.

There are more screens and details over at the Codemasters Blog, and GRID Autosport will be released on 27th June this year.  There are special editions in the works and whilst there’s no news on whether this game with come with a real BAC Mono, the Black Edition is available for preorder at GAME now.
